Erectile dysfunction is a condition or an inability of maintaining the erection to penetrate the vagina. The penis is not hard enough to penetrate into the vagina and if this happens too often, it would mean that the person has an erectile dysfunction. It is a very depressing condition for men because it hampers their ability to have satisfactory sexual intercourse.

Also, as per marriage counselors erectile dysfunction is a big reason for divorces among couples because it causes sexual disharmony among them.

Men who are most susceptible to this condition are from the 60 to 70 age group. There are several factors that lead to erectile dysfunction like age, inability in frequent erection, too much alcohol and smoking, depression and emotional disorders, other conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol and some heart diseases also. However, erectile dysfunction could also happen due to psychological reasons when there is emotional incompatibility between couples.

Before treating the disorder it is very important to find the cause of the disorder which might be different for each individual. If the causes are due to physical reasons, then it is often treated with holistic medicine and other medications. However, if the cause of the erectile dysfunction is due to the psychological reasons such as incompatibility and lack of passion among the couple, then it has to be treated with a different approach and not medicines.

There are hundreds of medicines available in the market today to improve erection in men and some are even available off the counter. However, it is also important to consult a sexologist if the problem is a recurrent one.
